Under its Pipol Konek Project, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) will soon provide free Wi-Fi in public places in Dumaguete City, including City Hall, Quezon Park, and Rizal Boulevard.

According to the Philippine News Agency (PNA), City Information Officer Dems Rey Demecillo said the project follows the resolution that was passed to authorise Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo to sign all documents related to the proposed memorandum of agreement with DICT, on behalf of the city.

Meanwhile, the free Wi-Fi will be limited per access point. Each user will only be allotted with 50 MB to 100 MB of free data each day to maintain the internet speed at 256 mbps.

The DICT re-introduced Pipol Konek or the Free Wi-Fi Internet Access in Public Places (FWPP) project last month. The project aims to provide internet service to over 13,000 public places across 145 cities and 1,489 municipalities in the country.
